Sub Lieutenant (A) Christopher Newburgh-Hutchins

Sub Lieutenant (A) Christopher Newburgh- Hutchins, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. He was killed in a flying accident on 1st March 1944 aged 22. He was the Ward of Captain R. G. Brown, C.B.E. , R.N. and the late Mrs Brown and is buried in Fogo Churchyard. ( His name is not on the Fogo War Memorial). He was piloting a Fairey Fulmar fighter of the Fleet Air Arm  and crashed ar Winfield Aerodrome whilst trying to land in a snowstorm His Observer Sub Lieutenant J. A. Luke was also killed. ( see below). The Fulmar was on a training flight from the Trials Aircraft Carrier H.M.S. “Pretoria Castle “.
