Able Seaman William Anderson

Able Seaman William Anderson, Merchant Navy. He was lost at sea aboard S.S.”Crichtoun” on 18th March 1945 aged 30. He had been born in Burnmouth and was the son of Hendry and Helen Anderson and the husband of Janet Anderson of Eyemouth and is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial, London. He had worked as a fisherman and by February 1940 had joined the Merchant Navy as a deckhand The” Crichtoun”, which had been launched in Leith in 1920, was in transit between Leith and London when it was sunk by torpedo fired from a German E-Boat off Lowestoft, Suffolk. 22 of the 25 crew were lost.
