Lance Corporal Robert Thompson M.M.

Lance Corporal Robert Thompson, M.M., 5th/6th (Service ) Battalion, Cameronians( Scottish Rifles ) He was killed in action in France, aged 32, on 3rd October 1918 during the “Advance to Victory” and is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, France. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of Robert and the late Margaret Thompson of Eyemouth. He had been living in Alloa when he enlisted at the beginning of the War.  He was wounded in October 1917 and was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry in the field in April 1918. The photographs show Allied troops in the advance against the retreating German army during the final 100 days of the War.
