Second Hand James Collin

Second Hand James Collin, Royal Naval Reserve. He was lost aboard H.M. Drifter “Piscatorial 11” on 28th December 1917 aged 28. He had been born in Eemouth and  was the son of Joseph and Jane Collin of Ebba House, Upper Houndlaw, Eyemouth and is commemorated on the Chatham Memorial. The ship was an ex Yarmouth Drifter of 93 tons and was employed as a net Barrier Tender under Skipper John Tungate. She set out from Newhaven on the 28th and was never seen again. From the shore a large explosion was heard and the next day wreckage and a few bodies were found near Brighton. All 10 crew aboard were lost and it was assumed the ship had struck a mine. The crew included Robert Crombie, Arthur Lough and Alexander Collin, all from Eyemouth ( see below).
