Flying Officer George Lough

Flying Officer George Lough, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was a member of 228 Squadron , Royal Air Force and was lost on Air Operations on 13th June 1943 aged 20. He had been born in Eyemouth and was the son of James and Margaret Lough of Albert Road, Eyemouth and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.  The Squadron was part of Coastal Command and flew the Short Sunderland 111 flying boat on anti submarine patrols over the Atlantic and Bay of Biscay from Pembroke Dock, Wales. He had enlisted from Edinburgh University and was commissioned from Leading Aircraftman in November 1942. He was lost when his aircraft attacked five U-Boats on the surface in the Bay of Biscay.
