Second Lieutenant Eric William Wright Sandison, Mentioned in Dispatches ,3rd ( Reserve ) Battalion, Royal Scots att. 15th ( Service ) Battalion, Royal Scots. He died of wounds in France on 18th November 1916 aged 24. He was the son of Mary Helen McGregor Sandison and the late Magnus Sandilands of Highlaws, Ayton and is buried in Wimereux Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. He was mentioned in dispatches for his part in a raid on 8th November. He and Captain Selby with 42 Other Ranks raided German trenches in the Bois Grenier sector . After a fierce bombing contest the raid was successful with many German casualties and a Trench Mortar destroyed. His Headstone is inscribed ” Son Of The Late Magnus Sandison Of Highlaws, Berwickshire “.
