Corporal David Williams

Corporal David Williams, Royal Air Force. He died on Active Service in Iraq, aged 37, on the 30th January 2005 during Operation Telic. He had been born in Ruthwell, Dumfriesshire and was the son of David and Evelyn Williams of Eyemouth and the husband of Kathryne Williams of Chippenham, Wiltshire. He had been brought up in Eyemouth after the family moved from Ruthwell and from there he joined the R.A.F. in 1987. He was trained as a Survival Equipment fitter and served at R.A.F. Lyneham, Wiltshire, home base for all the R.A.F. Hercules transport aircraft. He was on board a 47 Squadron Hercules flying from Baghdad to the Balad airbase when it was brought down by ground fire. All 10 personnel aboard were lost. He is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Basra, Iraq.
