Flying Officer Alexander Aitchison

Flying Officer Alexander Swanston Aitchison,  Bsc. ( Edin ) 247 ( China British ) Squadron, Royal Air Force. He was a member of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and was lost on an Air Operation on 14th February 1944 aged 22. He was the son of Alexander and Alice Aitchison of Eyemouth and is buried in Orleans Main Cemetery, France. The Squadron flew  the Hawker Typhoon in the ground attack role from R.A.F. Merston. In the run up to D Day the main targets transport systems and weapon emplacements. His Headstone is inscribed ” How Bright These Glorious Spirits Shine “.
