Sergeant Pilot James Hughes

Sergeant Pilot James Finlay Hughes, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was a member of 77 Squadron Royal Air Force and was lost on an Air Operation, aged 25, on 2nd May 1941. He was the son of Walter and Mary Hughes of Eyemouth, Dunbar and North Berwick.  Before enlisting in 1939 he was manager of the Eyemouth Picture House living with his uncle George Hughes of the Whale Inn, Harbour Road, Eyemouth. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. At the time of loss on a raid to Hamburg the Squadron was flying the Armstrong Whitley from R.A.F. Topcliffe and was part of 4 Group Main Bomber Force.
