Private George Harkness

Private George Harkness, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died at Middlestots, Edrom from pneumonia on 3rd August 1918, aged 20, and is buried in Edrom Parish Churchyard. He had been born in County Durham and was the son of the late John Harkness and Mrs William ( Harkness ) Johnston of Middlestots, Edrom. He had worked as a ploughman when he enlisted in October 1914 and joined the 2nd K.O.S.B. in France. He was wounded in October 1916 and upon recovery was posted to the 6th Battalion. He was wounded again in 1917 and due to his injuries was discharged from the Army.
