Private John Gleed

Private John Gleed. 13th Battalion, Australian Infantry. He was killed in France at Guedecourt near Bapaume on 4th February 1917, aged 30. He was the son of Mark and the late Jemima Logie Gleed of Hendersyde Park, Kelso and is commemorated on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, Guedecourt, Somme, France. He had emigrated to Australia in November 1913 and before enlisting on 10th January 1916 he had been employed as a coach builder in Coogee, Sydney, New South Wales. On 3rd May 1916 he hand his comrades had sailed for France on H.M.A.T ” Clan McGillivray “.
