Volunteer William Brown

Volunteer William Anderson Brown, 4th Scottish Border Battalion, Home Guard. He died from an accidental wound in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, aged 28, on the 2nd September 1940. He had been born in Oxnam and was the son of John and Isabella Brown and the husband of Catherine Brown of Marlfield Cottage, Eckford whom he had married in Kelso in 1939. He had been acting as a marker on the rifle range at Marlfield when he was wounded in the head by the accidental discharge of a rifle. He is buried in Kelso Cemetery where his Headstone is inscribed ” In The Garden Of Memories there Is Always Sunshine”.
