Private James Boyle

Private James Boyle, 7th/8th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in France on 24th January 1917, aged 28 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Thiepval, Somme, France.  He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of Margaret and the late John Boyle of Eckford. Before enlisting  he had been employed at Marlefield, Farm, Eckford. At that time the Battalion was holding front line trenches known as ” Scots Redoubt” in the Somme Sector of the Front and suffered from intermittent shelling and sniping.
