Private William Somerville

Private William Somerville, 8th Battalion ( Manitoba Regiment ) Canadian Expeditionary Forces. He was killed in action on 29th September 1918, aged 31 during the ” Advance to Victory”. He had been born in Carstairs, Lanarkshire and was the son of William and Rachel Somerville of Eccles Tofts, Eccles and was the husband of Elsie Somerville of Molson, Manitoba. Before enlisting in Manitoba in March 1916 he had been employed in farming.  He was posted to the 8th Battalion in France in September 1918 but was killed two weeks later. He is buried in Sancourt British Cemetery, France where his Headstone is inscribed ” Blessed are The Pure In Heart for They Shall See God”. the photos show Allied troops advancing during the final 100 days of the War.
