Gunner Frederick Campbell

Gunner Frederick James Campbell, 21st Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery. He was was killed in action near Beaulieu, Normandy, France on 21st August 1944 during the Battle for Normandy, aged 33. He had been born in Edinburgh and was the son of David and Christina Campbell and husband of Catherine Laurie Campbell of Ford village, Northumberland and Kelso and is buried in St. Charles De Percy War Cemetery, Calvados, France.  He had originally enlisted in the Northumberland Hussars but in February 1940 they were converted into a light Anti-Aircraft and Anti Tank Regiment. In 1944 they operated the M-10 Achilles Self propelled gun in support of the Guards Armoured Division in Normandy.
