Private James Weatherston, 2nd/2nd Battalion, London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers ). He was killed on 26th October 1917 during the Third Battle of Ypres, aged 19. He was the only son of James and Mary Weatherston of 12 High Street, Earlston and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium. ( The Berwickshire Advertiser shows his Unit as the Army Service Corps ). The photographs show the atrocious battlefield conditions where the incessant shelling had destroyed the Flanders drainage systems.
