Lance Corporal David Paterson, Royal Canadian Regiment. He was killed in action in Belgium on 3rd August 1916 aged 25. He was the son of Mrs Paterson of Church Street, Earlston and is buried in the Menin Road South Military Cemetery, Ypres, He had emigrated to Canada some years before the War and had farmed in Saskatchewan. On the outbreak of War he left his land in the care of a neighbour, enlisted and came over to France with the second Canadian Contingent.
