Private Alexander Simpson, M.M.

Private Alexander Simpson M.M., 11th ( Service ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action on 20th April 1918  in France during the German Spring Offensives on the River Lys and is buried in Feuchy Chapel British Cemetery, Wancourt, France. He had been born at Dalcove, Roxburghshire and lived at East Morriston, ( near Earlston ), Berwickshire before enlisting in Kinross. The photographs show Allied troops preparing to resist the advancing Germans. ( The Register of Military Medal Winners gives his Rank as Lance Corporal ).
