Sergeant Thomas Rutherford

Sergeant Thomas Allan Rutherford, Royal Australian Air Force. He died on active service on 14th August 1942, aged 20. He was the son of Stamford Roy and Laura May Rutherford of Cottesloe, Western Australia and is buried in Duns Parish Churchyard. His brother Bernard Rinian Roy Rutherford also died on active service with the R.A.A.F. on 19th May 1942 aged 22.  (He is not commemorated on Duns War Memorial but we felt it was right that he should be included in this section). His Headstone is inscribed ” To The World An Airman, To Me The World. His Brother Rinian is Buried At Leconfield, Yorks “. Tragic losing two sons within three months of each other.
