Private Peter Feeney

Private Peter Feeney, 12th ( Service ) Battalion, Royal Scots. He was killed in action in France on 14th July 1916 during the Battle of the Somme, aged 21. He had been born in Duns and was the son of Mrs Mary Feeney of 29 South Street, Duns and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Thiepval, Somme, France. He fell in the successful but costly assault on the strongly fortified village of Longueval which in itself was part of the wider battle of Bazentin Ridge. which was also captured. The photos show Scottish troops on the Somme and the colour image shows part of a peaceful Somme landscape as it is today with ” no gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now”.
