Staff Sergeant James Scouller

Fitter Staff Sergeant James Todd Scouller, ” C ” Reserve Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. He died in hospital on 9th June 1917, aged 36. He had been born in Duns and was the son of John and Jane Mathews Kerr Scouller of Victoria Lodge, Gavinton, Duns and is buried in Duns Cemetery.  Before enlisting he had been employed as a draughtsman with the North British Railway Company in Springburn, Glasgow.  He had landed in France in September 1915 was wounded on the 10th April 1917 and evacuated to Gilroes Hospital, Barrow-on-Soar, Leicestershire where he died. The R.F.A. normally used the 18 pounder field gun in an anti infantry role using both high explosive and shrapnel shells one of which is shown below.
