Private Henry Holywell

Private Henry Halliday Holywell, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died on Active Service, aged 18, of disease on 8th August 1915 in Egypt. He had been born in Duns and was the son of James and Christina Holywell of Kilnknowe, Coldingham  He was the brother of James Holywell , above and is buried in Alexandria ( Chatby ) Military Cemetery, Egypt. He was educated at the Berwickshire High School, Duns and is also commemorated on a Memorial Tablet placed in the new Berwickshire High School, Duns. His Headstone is inscribed ” Abide With Me “. He had landed with the Battalion on Gallipoli in June 1915 but had contracted typhoid and was evacuated to the 21st General Hospital in Alexandria where he died.
