Private Alexander Henderson

Private Alexander Clark Henderson, 10th/11th ( Service )Battalion, Highland Light Infantry.  He was killed in action in Belgium, aged 19, on the 9th April 1918 during the German Spring Offensive on the River Lys. He had been born in Glasgow and was the son of James and Jessie Henderson who lived at Cumledge Mill, Duns. He had been living in Duns when he enlisted originally in the 18th H.L.I. In France he was transferred to the 10th/11th Battalion. He is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Flanders, Belgium. The photos show Allied troops in defensive positions.
