Private Alexander Henderson

Private Alexander Clark Henderson, 10th/11th ( Service ) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action in Flanders, aged 19, during the German Spring Offensive on the River Lys on 9th April 1918 and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert, Memorial, Flanders, Belgium. He had been born in Glasgow and was the son of James and Jessie Henderson of Cumledge Mill, Duns. He was living in Duns when he enlisted in the 18th H.L.I. but was transferred to the 10th/11th Battalion in France. The photographs show Allied troops in defensive positions preparing to resist the oncoming Germans.
