Gunner Adam Shearlaw

Gunner Adam Shearlaw, “B” Battery, 107th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. He died from wounds in France on 16th April 1917 received during the Battle of Arras, aged 33. He had been born in Coldingham and was the son of George and Janet Shearlaw of Cheeklaw, Duns and the husband of the late Helen Tait Shearlaw. He is buried in Aix-Noulette Communal Cemetery Extension, France. He is also commemorated on the Houndwood War Memorial. The R.F.A normally used the 18 pounder gun in an anti infantry role using high explosive and shrapnel shells as seen below.
