Private Thomas Crawford

Private Thomas Crawford, 2nd Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action in France on 9th September 1916, aged 19, during the Battle of the Somme. He was the son of Robert and Annie Crawford of Hassendean, Hawick and is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, France. He was the second son of Private Robert Crawford, Denholm of the Army Veterinary Corps. He had been farming in Canada when he enlisted in November 1915, sailing from Nova Scotia in April 1916. The photos show troops on the Somme in 1916 and the colour image shows a peaceful Somme landscape today.
