Stoker Alexander Bunyan.

Stoker 1st Class Alexander Gillies Bunyan, Royal Naval Patrol Service. He was lost at sea aboard H.M. Trawler “Red Gauntlet” on 4th August 1943 aged 34. He had been born in Melrose to Alexander and Flora Bunyan of Floral Bank, Gattonside, Melrose and was the husband of Isabella Bunyan of Darnick Vale, Melrose. He is commemorated on the Lowestoft Naval Memorial. His vessel was a trawler requisitioned by the Admiralty in 1939 for use as a minesweeper. She was sunk by torpedo off Felixtowe near the 54a Buoy by the German S-86 motor torpedo boat with the loss of 21 crew members.
