Ordinary Seaman Thomas Elliot

Ordinary Thomas Norman Elliot, Royal Naval Patrol Service. He died accidentally whilst on Active Service on 29th September 1940 aged 24. He had been born to the late John and Margaret Elliot of High Street, Lauder and had been brought up in Melrose by his aunt Mrs J. Rutherford where he had been a keen member of the Boys Brigade. He was a crew member aboard H.M. Patrol Yacht “Nirvana” and he is buried in Falmouth Cemetery. Before enlisting in 1939 he had been employed in the “Douglas Hotel” in Galashiels. He accidentally drowned with eight other sailors when their small boat capsized whilst crossing a river near St. Mawes, Cornwall.
