Corporal Ivor Fernie

Corporal Ivor Fernie, “C” Coy., 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He had fallen ill in Palestine and had been evacuated to the 24th Stationary Hospital in Kantara, Egypt where he died on 8th September 1917 aged 20. He was the son of William Fernie of Abbotsford Roads, Darnick and is buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Kantara, Egypt. Before being mobilised he had worked in the Town Clerk’s office in Melrose where he had also been secretary of Melrose Cricket Club.
