Private Peter Purves, 12th ( Service ) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action in France on 24th April 1917 during the Battle of Arras and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Arras, France. He had been born in Berwick-upon-Tweed and had originally enlisted there into the Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He is not on the Coldstream Memorial but as he had lived in the Town before enlisting we feel that he should be commemorated here. ( He is commemorated on the Ladykirk Memorial). The photograph shows troops and a tank in a captured village near Arras.
