Second Lieutenant John Nisbet

Second Lieutenant John Nesbit, 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots. He was killed in action in Belgium on 15th April 1915, aged 23. He had been born in Reston in 1891 and was the son of William and Isabella Dunn Nisbet of Victoria Road, Eyemouth.  He had been educated at Broughton School and Edinburgh University where he graduated M.A. with Honours in 1914. Prior to enlisting he had received an appointment with George Watson’s College in Edinburghy. He was commissioned in November 1914 and went to France in January 1915.  He is buried in Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery, Flanders, Belgium where his headstone is inscribed ” A Son Honourable In Life Valiant In Death” He was killed by shellfire whilst on trench duties in the Kemmel Sector of the Ypres Salient.
