Lance Sergeant John McGuire

Lance Sergeant John Devlin McGuire, 5th Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. He was killed in action in Germany on 19th April 1945, aged 35 and is buried in Becklingen War Cemetery, Germany.  He had been born in Edinburgh and was the son of Margaret and the late Hugh McGuire of Rose Cottage, Coldingham. He had been a lorry driver before he enlisted as a Regular soldier before the War.  He served in Palestine from 1936-1939 and later in Egypt, Holland and Germany. He fell at Adelheide as the Battalion, part of the 51st ( Highland ) Division, advanced to assist in the capture of the German port of Bremen. The photos show Scottish troops in Germany in 1945.
