Private Robert Redhead, 3rd ( Reserve )( Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment. He died in St John’s Military Hospital, Hull on 1st July 1918 and is buried in Chatton ( Holy Cross ) Churchyard. He was the eldest son of Robert and Mrs Redhead of Hetton House, Chatton and had enlisted on attaining the age of 18. He had worked on his fathers farm and it seemed his heart was not strong although the doctors had passed him A1. He had only been in the Army for three weeks and the local M.P. Sir Francis Blake raised his case in the House Of Commons and asked why he had been passed for service in the first place when it was obvious that he was not strong enough for the rigours of Military life.
