Private James Gallon

Private James Gallon, 12th ( Service )Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France on 3rd July 1916, aged 26, during the Battle of the Somme. He was the son of William and Isabella Gallon of Weetwood, Wooler and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. He had been born at Kimmerston and had originally enlisted in the 15th Battalion of the Fusiliers before being transferred to the 12th. The photographs show troops on the Somme with the colour image showing a peaceful Somme landscape today with ” no gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now”.
