Private Robert Fleming, 15th ( Service ) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. He died from wounds in France, aged 22, on the 24th June 1918. He had been born in Sunderland Hall, Selkirk and was the son of Robert and the late Margaret Fleming of Hartwoodmyres, Selkirk. he had been employed at Upper Tofts farm, Kirkton when he enlisted in the 2nd/4th ( Reserve ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers in October 1915. He was then posted to the 1st K.O.S.B. in France before being transferred to the 15th H.L.I. He died in the 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital, Gezaincourt and is buried in Gezaincourt Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France where his Headstone is inscribed ” In Ever Loving Remembrance”.
