Private George Lauder

Private George Lauder, 1st Battalion, Cameronians. He died from wounds suffered in France, aged 29, on the 11th October 1918 during the ” Advance to Victory”. He had been born in Ewes, Dumfriesshire and was the son of the late William and Mary Lauder of Kirkton. He had been employed as a gardener at Bemersyde, St. Boswells before enlisting in the 6th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers in September 1915. However in France he was posted to the 2nd Cameronians before joining the 1st Battalion. He was wounded in April 1918 and again in October when he died in the 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station at Manancourt. He is buried in Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery, Manancourt, France. The photos show Allied troops advancing after the retreating Germans in the final 100 days of the War.
