Sergeant Thomas Sanderson

Sergeant Thomas Sanderson, Royal Air Force. He died on Service, aged 27, on the 2nd November 1940 and is buried in Galashiels ( Eastland ) Cemetery. He had been born in Wallsend-on-Tyne and was the son of Robert and Jane Sanderson of Clovenfords, Caddonfoot. His father had been a Policeman in Wallsend and had retired to Clovenfords in 1931. Thomas has served his apprenticeship in aircraft mechanics at R.A.F. Halton near Aylesbury and was based at 11 Operational Training Unit at R.A.F. Bassingbourne when he fell ill and died from intestinal problems and appendicitis at R.A.F Henlow near Biggleswade. The photo shows apprentices at Halton.
