Private James Humble

Private James Humble, 5th Battalion, Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. He was killed in action in France, aged 22, on the 16th June 1944 during the Normandy Campaign. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of William and Elizabeth Humble of Torwoodlee, Caddonfoot. Before enlisting in 1940 he had been employed in Buckholmside Skinworks, Galashiels and had served in North Africa and Italy with the 51st ( Highland ) Division before returning to prepare for the D-Day Landings. He is buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, Normandy, France where his Headstone is inscribed ” Whatever Else We fail To Do We Will Never Fail To Remember You. Your Fond Parents”.
