Second Lieutenant Logan Studley, 1st Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment. He was killed in action in Belgium on 25th October 1914, aged 17 during the Battle of First Ypres. He was the son of Mary and the late Major Harry Studley of 8 Dempster Terrace, St. Andrews and is buried in Ypres Town Cemetery, Flanders, Belgium. He was gazetted to the East Yorks in early October from the ranks of the Yorkshire Regiment in which he was a Lance Corporal. ( He seems very young to have been a regular soldier far less an Officer) His Headstone is inscribed ” Death Is Swallowed Up In Victory 1 Cor. XV.54 “. The artist’s illustrations depict scenes from the Battle as do the photographs.
