Second Lieutenant William Innes Short

Second Lieutenant William Innes Short, 1st Battalion Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action at Gallipoli on 11th August 1915 aged 31 whilst on night patrol. Previously a Regular Soldier in the Black Watch (1902-1905) he joined an uncle in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and became the manager of  a tea plantation in that country. Initially re-enlisted as a rifleman in the Ceylon Planters Rifle Corps and was later commissioned into the K.O.S.B. He was the son of George Short of 22 Albert Place, Berwick upon Tweed and the late Mrs. Anne Roland Innes Short. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Helles, Gallipoli, Turkey.
