Rifleman Robert Turnbull, 16th ( Territorial ) Battalion, London Regiment ( Queen’s Westminster Rifles ). He died of wounds in the 1st Casualty Clearing Station in France on 6th November 1918 during the ” Advance to Victory ” aged 33, and is buried in Cambrai East Military Cemetery. Cambrai, Nord, France. He was the Son of Margaret and the late Robert Turnbull and the husband of Jane Turnbull of 26 Church Street, Berwick. He had joined the Northern Cyclists Battalion in 1914 later transferring to the Tyneside Scottish and then the London Regiment where he had already been wounded. His Headstone is inscribed ” For King And Country He Did His Best God Grant Him Eternal Rest”. The photos show Allied troops advancing during the final 100 days of the War.
