Private Robert Hills

Private Robert Fish Hills, 15th ( Service ) Battalion ( 2nd City of Birmingham ), Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was killed by the bursting of a rifle grenade in France on 9th March 1916, aged 30. He was the son of John and Sarah How Hills of Lindisfarne, Spittal and is buried in Cabaret Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France.  His Headstone is inscribed ” White As Snow “. This Unit was one of the ” Pals ” Battalions raised in 1914. He had been educated at Berwick Grammar School and before enlisting he had been employed as a cashier with Messrs A.& F. Parkes of Birmingham. He had been a keen sportsman and played both cricket and football.
