Private Robert Burn, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in hospital in Plymouth on 19th August 1916, aged 37 of wounds received in action during the Battle of the Somme. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Burn of Spittal and is buried in Plymouth ( Weston Mill ) Cemetery. The photographs show Scots troops on the Somme and the colour image shows a peaceful Somme landscape today with “no gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now”.
