Sergeant Robert Addison

Sergeant Robert Henry Addison, 1st/23rd ( Territorial ) Battalion, London Regiment (  The East Surreys ). He was killed in action in France, aged 25, on 9th May 1918 whilst leading his platoon in a counterattack and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Pozieres, Somme, France. He was the son of John and Sarah Addison of Mount Road, Berwick. His father had been a Sergeant-Major in the Royal Garrison Artillery.. Before the War he had lived in Cheapside, London and was working for a large firm of London tailors. He had been twice wounded in action and had for the past two years been acting as an instructor at Sandhurst Military College. He had only been back in France for two months when killed.
