Private Nicholas Thompson

Private Nicholas Thompson, 12th ( Service) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He died in a casualty clearing station in France on 4th July 1916 of wounds received in action during the Battle of the Somme. He had been born at New Berwick and was the son of Mrs F. Thompson of West Street, Wooler and is buried in Mericourt-L’ Abbe Communal Cemetery Extension nr. Albert, Somme, France.  The photos show troops on the Somme and the colour image shows a peaceful Somme landscape today.
