Lance Corporal Murdo Stewart Carruthers, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in France on 29th August, 1917, aged 39 years, shot by a sniper. At the time of his death he was attached to the 6th Battalion Cameron Highlanders. He is buried in Dochy Farm New British Cemetery, France. He had been editor of the “Berwick Advertiser” between 1909 and 1913 when he moved to the Paisley Gazette to be in charge of the editorial department. He was the son of Mrs. Annabella Carruthers of 55 Underwood Road, Paisley.
