Corporal John Wilson

Corporal John William Rae Wilson, 44th Regiment, Royal Tank Regiment, Royal Armoured Corps. He died of wounds in Egypt on 17th June 1942, aged 27. He was the son of James and Margaret Wilson of Edinburgh and is buried in Heliopolis War Cemetery, Cairo, Egypt. His Headstone is inscribed ” A Beloved Only Son”. It is likely he had been wounded during the Gazala battles of May 1942 where his Regiment was heavily involved. The Regiment were equipped with the Valentine Infantry tank of which more than 8,000 were produced during the War.
