Corporal John Seals

Corporal John Seals,  ” B ” Coy. 14th ( Service ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 24th April 1917 during the Battle of Arras aged 26. He had been born in Kelso and was the son of Joseph and Sarah Seals of 77 Marygate, Berwick and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. He was educated at the British School and served his apprenticeship as a chemist with Mr John Brown of Berwick and then with Mr Stenhouse of Musselburgh. He qualified as a chemist in June 1914 and gained a position in London. He joined his battalion in May 1915 and went to the front in June 1916. The photographs show British troops during the Battle.
