Lieutenant John Marshall, Royal Army Medical Corps. He was lost at sea aboard H.M.T. “Arcadian ” on 15th April 1917, aged 29. He was the son of Agnes and the late John Marshall of Tweedmouth Farm and is commemorated on the Mikra Memorial, Greece. He was educated at Berwick Grammar School and then Edinburgh University from 1903-1908. He graduated M.B.,Ch.B ( Hons ) in 1908. From 1915 till February 1917 he was House Surgeon at Beaufort War Hospital, Bristol until commissioned into the R.A.M.C. in March 1917 and was posted to the Salonica Front. The ” Arcadian ” was a transport of 8,900 tons and was torpedoed and sunk off the Greek Island of Minos by UC74. She went down in six minutes with the loss of 277 passengers and crew.
