Private James Stokoe

Private James Stokoe, 8th ( Service ) Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment. He was killed in action in Belgium on 28th August 1917, aged 23, during the Third Battle of Ypres. He was the son of Thomas Stokoe of 66 Shielfield Terrace, Tweedmouth and is buried in Railway Dugouts Burial Ground ( Transport Farm ) nr., Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. His brother Robert also fell ( see above ). The photos show troops during the early stages of the Battle.
